It’s a wrap!
When I began my latest sauna book journey fifteen months ago, I didn’t know exactly where I was headed or how to get there. I just handed out the final round of comments and edits for the full layout version of my upcoming book Finnish Sauna: Steam, wood, stone & How to build your own, and I am delighted to say that the exact goal and path to that end eventually presented themselves to me. As they sometimes do.
Among the happy incidents along the way, since the summer of 2024, I have been collaborating with Quercus/MacLehose Press in London to create this new piece of Finnish sauna literature.
I am grateful to have had the chance to collaborate with my great editor, Katharina Bielenberg, and many professionals who have lifted this work to a whole new level from how I imagined it in 2023.
For those eager to get their hand on this volume, I must warn you that the production is not ready yet, even if I have given my best part. But you can find the book on pre-sales at Amazon, but the official release won’t happen in Europe until late September, in the North America by the end of 2025.

There are good and bad news.
In summary:
- Book will be more extensive than expected
- Book has a big publisher
- The manuscript is done
- Global launch delayed until September 2025
First of all, the book manuscript is now content-wise done! I have just handed the most recent revision back to the copy editor and expect only minimal changes after this point.
I took my time doing some further research, for instance, spending most of last June in the US. I think this time has been well spent. I am much more confident that the book can now provide more realistic advice for especially North American builders.
The second big news is that in July 2024, I signed a publishing agreement with Hachette UK (aka MacLehose Press, an imprint of Quercus) for the publication of a book that will embody most of the ideas that I developed during the winter writing sprints of 2023-2024.
The new deal meant a few changes to the book’s content. Most notably, I have written several new chapters about the history, culture, and health benefits of Finnish saunas. However, all core content of the sauna building companion idea remains, so the outcome should satisfy most readers who liked the original idea. The book will also be hard cover.
I decided to work with this established publisher to ensure that my message about Finnish saunas would be heard further and wider than ever before—hopefully not only among the selected and knowledgeable readers like yourself. Second, this provided additional financial support that has enabled me to continue finalizing the manuscript, instead of wasting time chasing after grants for no good.
The downside of this deal is that the book publication, although now secured, has been substantially delayed.
Currently, with Hachette, our target global release date is in September. The book will be called Finnish Sauna. Steam, Wood, Stone & How to Build Your Own (Maclehose Press, London). As far as I know, the book will be made available in the UK and in the North America simultaneously through online and physical book stores.
The book is not yet done, although the writing and most of the editing are finished. It will take a couple of months to complete the visual design and layout. So, I hope to keep you posted how slowly but surely we approach the release in 2025.
